Description
Our Jordan Covered Bridge Greeting Card features the illustrious Stayton-Jordan Covered Bridge located in Stayton Oregon.
The original Jordan Covered Bridge spanned Thomas Creek in Linn County (east of Scio). In 1986 Linn County decided to replace the bridge and residents of Stayton asked to take over the structure, which allowed them to rebuild the Jordan Covered Bridge over the Salem Power Canal. It took 2 years of hard work by volunteers and Marine Corps reservists from the 6th Engineering Battalion in Salem before a dedication ceremony took place in June of 1988.
On December 20th 1994 at 2am the bridge burnt down due to Christmas lights igniting the roof. The charred remains were demolished by the city. Undeterred the citizens pressed on rebuilding the bridge starting in 1997 until the dedication ceremony in September of 1998, just over 10 years after the original dedication ceremony.
